Artist’s Garden Design - Under the arms of ‘Venus’
Garden Design | Year 2 Sem 1 | Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre, Pokfulam, Hong Kong
The concepts and forms of the redesign are transformed from the artist’s philosophy and approach in the artistic work of Ossip Zadkine. ‘Venus’ is created by Ossip Zadkine. The main philosophy of the artist are that most of his works are wood-oriented and emphasize on the connection between artworks and the nature. Therefore, the garden design is wood-oriented and the nature is shown on the water features and the greening elements. Some sculptures are displayed on the water features so that
shadows are reflected on the water. Some sculptures are displayed around the greening elements to show the connection.
As the movement of the raising arm shows a sense of protection and it’s the main focus of the work, the form is used as the main form of the design. Moreover, the work ‘Venus’ represents the goddess of love. The artwork creates a sense of inclusive-
ness and protection.
Curve lines are used to enclose the key areas of the design. There are four key functions in the design, including working space for the artist, areas for displaying artworks, areas for visitors to appreciate artworks, and areas for collecting the loosen materials after Zadkine had finished his artworks (e.g. wood fragments).
